Chuanju Theatre

Wow! What an experience for the children of Padiham Green yesterday when they had the opportunity to see the 'Chongqing Chanju Theatre Troupe' in Preston. Thanks to the Confucius Institute at the University of Central Lancashire, 10 lucky children who have an interest in martial arts watched a series of traditional Chinese dances by some very talented  performers.
First of all we watched the lion dance which is often performed at traditional Chinese festivals or at special events such as weddings.
The dancing, face paints and costumes were incredible, especially the 'water sleeves' which were twirled around in time to the music by a stage full of ladies performing a scene from the 'Sichuan Opera'.
An episode from 'Red Lotus on the Green Lake' was a particularly fun dance where the daughter of the Dragon King falls in love with a young man she sees in a mirror!
The star of the show for most of our children however, was 'Chou', a Chinese clown who balances an oil lamp on his head whilst carrying out a series of contortions and acrobatics!

Thank you to all the people involved in the show and to those who let us all come back stage for photographs afterwards!

China Day at Padiham Green!

A fantastic time was had by all this week as year one and two at Padiham Green were fully immersed in a 'China Day!' Thanks to the UCLan Confucius Institute (a partnership between UCLan, Beijing International Studies University
and Hanban) the children in Mrs Edwards and Miss Whittle's class enjoyed learning some basic Chinese phrases, lantern making, paper folding, playing traditional playground games and learning all about the legend of nian the dragon! What a great start to the Chinese New Year celebrations....新年好 xīn nián hǎo !

What's it all about?

Hello and Welcome to the first post on our China2016 blog! First of all let's give you a bit of the background story.....well, back in October 2015 Mr Dixon was given a fabulous opportunity by the Confucius Institute to visit China with some other head teachers in Lancashire. He was taken to see some amazing sights in and around Beijing before being welcomed in to the No.2 Experimental Primary School in Qingdao. Mr Dixon enjoyed watching how the children in China learnt, played and spent their free time!

So what's going on in May?.....Well, since October, our China link has deepened due to Padiham Green’s involvement in a British Council bid with three other Lancashire schools. An opportunity for two teachers has arisen to visit Beijing and the No.2 Experimental Primary School in Qingdao where Mr Dixon visited last year!

In last week's newsletter Mr Dixon stated, "I’m delighted that this link continues and I know our teachers will love the experience. Mrs. Edwards, 克莱尔·爱德华兹 (教师)and Mrs. Gardiner, 娜塔莎·加德纳 (教师)will be travelling all the way to China in their May half term holiday. I’m sure there will be more news to follow with a possible visit from some Chinese pupils …from China to Padiham Green! That will be a great event for us."

So we invite you to follow our blog and we'll keep you up to date on how we're getting on!
